Ahhh sweet, sweet solar.

I put the finishing touches on my electrical system this weekend with the addition of two Kyocera 65T solar panels on Bodhran's pushpit. On a cloudy day here at 49 degrees north, the two 65 watt panels capable of putting out almost 8 amps were generating 4.1 amps. I couldn't have been happier. I've no doubts that they'll be able to hit that 8 amps mark down in the tropics.

Here's a pic of the mounting system that I came up with. I need to add a thumb screw to the strut for quick removal of the panels when the wind pipes up.

Battery bank just about done

Well with a lot of help from my Dad, I've just about got my electrical upgrades done. I've replaced my 2 group 27 batteries with 4 210 amp hour 6 volt golf cart batters, wired in an 800 watt inverter, replaced my 55 amp alternator with a 90 amp one, replaced the battery switch with a nice new Blue Sea Systems Dual Circuit switch, added a Blue Seas Automatic Charging Relay and got my solor regulator in place so that it'll be easy to now install my 2 65 watt Kyocera solor panels. I cut out the aft ice box under the starboard settee and glassed in two layers of shelves and added a mounting plate for busses, the inverter and the ACR outboard of those. It's turned out really well.

Rig's back up

Well last weekend saw the Bodhran's mast back in place with the rig fully tuned and ready for sailing. I also got my 44lbs Bruce anchor and it's 300 feet of chain on board. Bodhran is definitely leaning forward at the moment. I need to figure out how to balance her load a bit better, but I'm really happy with how the anchoring setup turned out.

Here's a picture of the anchoring setup
